Dr. Cheryl N. Poth is a Professor in the Centre for Research in Applied Measurement and Evaluation (CRAME) and a member of the Measurement, Evaluation, and Data Science (MEDS) program in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta located in Edmonton, Alberta. Since co-founding the interdisciplinary Alberta Clinical and Community-based Evaluation Research Team (ACCERT) with Dr. Jacqueline Pei in 2009, she has collaborated with graduate students and community partners to advance evaluation and service innovation for individuals with complex needs. Dr. Poth began her academic journey at Queen’s University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education through the Concurrent Education Program. Before pursuing graduate studies, she worked as a classroom teacher and educational administrator in Ontario and internationally. She earned a Master of Arts from the University of Alabama and completed her PhD at Queen’s University in 2008 under the supervision of Dr. Lyn Shulha as a member of the Assessment and Evaluation Group, the predecessor to today’s Assessment and Evaluation Centre in Education (AECE). She also holds the Credentialed Evaluator (CE) designation from the Canadian Evaluation Society and remains a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).

 

An internationally recognized scholar in mixed methods research, Dr. Poth is the author of Innovation in Mixed Methods Research: Integrative Thinking with Complexity, co-author with John W. Creswell of Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches, and editor of the SAGE Handbook of Mixed Methods Research Design. Her research focuses on mixed methods research, educational assessment, program evaluation, and complexity-informed approaches to research design. Through her scholarship, teaching, and leadership, she advances methodological innovation, research capacity, and equitable approaches to evidence generation and evaluation.
